Pagosa Bible Church is an non-denominational church made up of people who come from a variety of church backgrounds and traditions.  As we seek to live together in the love and unity of Jesus Christ we work to keep the main thing the main thing.  In our statement of faith and core values we seek to express the essentials of belief and practice.

What We Believe

The Word of God: We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, entirely trustworthy, the complete and final revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3 :16-17; Hebrews 1: 1-2).

The Trinity: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  As revealed to mankind, the Father sent the Son, and the Father and Son sent the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 3:16; John 14:26).

God the Father: We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal Spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.  We believe He concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of mankind, He hears and answers prayer, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:1; John 3 :16; Matthew 6:30-32; Ephesians 1:3-6).

God the Son, Jesus Christ: We believe Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He lived a sinless life.  He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures.  Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven where at the right hand of God, He is our high priest and intercessor.  He will return to establish His earthly kingdom (Isaiah 9:6; John 10:30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; Titus 2:13).

God the Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God, equal with the Father and Son.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict mankind, regenerate the believing sinner; and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for Godly living, service and ministry (John 14:16-17, 26; John 16:7-11; Ephesians 4:30).

Salvation: We believe salvation is a free gift from God and is received by mankind through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from any human merit, works or ritual.  We believe that the shed blood of Jesus and His resurrection provide the only means for salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ through faith are born again, become children of God, and receive eternal life.  We believe that the true believer is eternally secure (1 John 5:11-12; John 14:6; John 3:3-16).

Core Values:

1. Worship: We believe in God centered worship that focuses our hearts and minds on God and instructs us in His Word and its relevancy for our lives (Matthew 4:10; John 4:24).  0ur expression of worship should be reverent and focused on Christ.  The display of experiential spiritual gifts such as prophecy, physical healing and speaking in tongues during worship takes our focus off Christ and puts it on man.  Consequently, these gifts are not sought nor encouraged during worship services.

2. Fellowship: We believe in a community of believers committed to developing Christlike relationships within the family of God (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Hebrews 10:24-25).

3. Service: We believe in equipping people for service based on their God given spiritual gifts (Romans 12; Mark 10:45).

4. Spiritual Growth and Maturity: We believe the source of spiritual growth and maturity is God and His Word (Ephesians 4:12-15; Colossians 2:6-7; Hebrews 5:12).

5. Outreach: We believe that God wants us to join Him in reaching others by building redemptive relationships and reproducing His church (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8).

6. Leadership: We believe in a team of leaders that is called, committed, gifted and equipped to authentically lead the church in pursuit of its God given core values (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:68, Acts 20:18-38).
