Pagosa Bible Church is an non-denominational church made up of people who come from a variety of church backgrounds and traditions.  As we seek to live together in the love and unity of Jesus Christ we work to keep the main thing the main thing.  In our statement of faith and core values we seek to express the essentials of belief and practice.
Statement of Faith
1) The Word of God: We believe the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, entirely trustworthy, the complete and final revelation of His will for the salvation of mankind, and the Divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3 :16-17; Hebrews 1: 1-2).
2) The Trinity: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, infinitely perfect and existing in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  As revealed to mankind, the Father sent the Son, and the Father and Son sent the Holy Spirit (Genesis 1:26; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 3:16; John 14:26).
a) God the Father: We believe in God the Father, an infinite personal Spirit perfect in holiness, wisdom, power and love.  We believe He concerns himself mercifully in the affairs of mankind, He hears and answers prayer, and He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through His son, Jesus Christ (Genesis 1:1; John 3 :16; Matthew 6:30-32; Ephesians 1:3-6).
b) God the Son, Jesus Christ: We believe Jesus Christ is true God and true man, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He lived a sinless life.  He died on the cross a sacrifice for our sins according to the Scriptures.  Further, He arose bodily from the dead, ascended into Heaven where at the right hand of God, He is our high priest and intercessor.  He will return to establish His earthly kingdom (Isaiah 9:6; John 10:30; Acts 1:9-11; Romans 1:3-4; Titus 2:13).
c.) God the Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit is fully God, equal with the Father and Son.  The ministry of the Holy Spirit is to glorify the Lord Jesus Christ and during this age to convict mankind, regenerate the believing sinner; and indwell, guide, instruct and empower the believer for Godly living, service and ministry (John 14:16-17, 26; John 16:7-11; Ephesians 4:30).
3. Nature of Man: We believe that all people are created in the image of God; that all have sinned, and incurred physical death and spiritual death, (separation from God).  All people are born with a sinful nature (Genesis 1 :27; Genesis 3: 17- 19; Romans 5:12; Romans 12).
4. Salvation: We believe salvation is a free gift from God and is received by mankind through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from any human merit, works or ritual.  We believe that the shed blood of Jesus and His resurrection provide the only means for salvation for all who believe, and only those who receive Jesus Christ through faith are born again, become children of God, and receive eternal life.  We believe that the true believer is eternally secure (1 John 5:11-12; John 14:6; John 3:3-16).
5. The Church: We believe the true Church is composed of all who have been born again through saving faith in Jesus Christ and are united together in the body of Christ of which He is the Head (Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12:12-13).  We believe the local church is the visible representation of the Body of Christ, an assembly of professed believers who are voluntarily joined together in one locality for the purpose of worship, study of the Word of God, observance of the ordinances, Christian fellowship, and prayer, thereby to be equipped for Christian service, and to carry out the “Great Commission” as commanded by our Lord (Matthew 28:10-20; Ephesians 4: 11 – 13; Hebrews 10:25).
6) Ordinances (Sacraments): We believe that Christ instituted two ordinances: Water Baptism, by immersion, of the believer; and the Lord’s Supper, which is to be observed by believers until He returns.  The Lord’s Supper is a commemoration of Christ’s death by which He established the New Covenant, the elements being symbols of His broken body and shed blood (Matthew 28:18-20; I Corinthians 11:23-26).
7) Eternity: We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead: all will be judged; the believer will receive everlasting blessedness and joy with the Lord, the unbeliever will spend eternity in a literal hell (Romans 14:10-12; Acts 17:31; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Revelation 20:11- 15).
8.) Marriage:  We believe marriage and family are institutions by the Lord God himself from the very beginning of the human story and these are sacred institutions.  Marriage is between one man and one woman.  Any other definition of marriage is contrary to the clear teachings of the Holy Bible and hence against the expressed will of God (Genesis 2:22-25, Matthew 19:4-5, 1 Corinthians 7:2-16, Ephesians 5:23-32).
9.) Christ’s Return: We believe in the physical return of Jesus Christ (John 14:2, Acts 2:24-31).
We believe effective evangelism and discipleship
consist of the following Core Values:
1. Worship: We believe in God centered worship that focuses our hearts and minds on God and instructs us in His Word and its relevancy for our lives (Matthew 4:10; John 4:24).  0ur expression of worship should be reverent and focused on Christ.  The display of experiential spiritual gifts such as prophecy, physical healing and speaking in tongues during worship takes our focus off Christ and puts it on man.  Consequently, these gifts are not sought nor encouraged during worship services.
2. Fellowship: We believe in a community of believers committed to developing Christlike relationships within the family of God (Ecclesiastes 4:9-12; Hebrews 10:24-25).
3. Service: We believe in equipping people for service based on their God given spiritual gifts (Romans 12; Mark 10:45).
4. Spiritual Growth and Maturity: We believe the source of spiritual growth and maturity is God and His Word (Ephesians 4:12-15; Colossians 2:6-7; Hebrews 5:12).
5. Outreach: We believe that God wants us to join Him in reaching others by building redemptive relationships and reproducing His church (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 1:8).
6. Leadership: We believe in a team of leaders that is called, committed, gifted and equipped to authentically lead the church in pursuit of its God given core values (1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:68, Acts 20:18-38).
